Addicted to Frisbee

My children are obsessed lately with playing frisbee. They keep saying they have a "new talent." I am just glad it keeps them active. Now, if only they could find the talent of picking up after themselves without being told....life would be grand.

We Need Gas

We are under a state of emergency in our house today....we have no gas! Unfortunately, we may not have gas until Tuesday! Now as most of you know, I am sort of a girly girl. I must take a hot shower, curl my hair, and wear make-up everyday. This puts a wrench into my routine. I just gave my children a very cold stand up bath, and it was not pretty. 7,000 homes in our area will be without gas for several days. We are trying to make the best of it though and be positive. At least we still have electricity and water. Thank goodness you don't need gas to have a nice "cold beverage."

First Day of School

We had our first day of school today. It is hard to believe we have a third grader and a first grader already. Lauren's teacher is named Mrs. Weed. She is very nice and is expecting her first child in January. Lauren was all smiles when she walked into my classroom after school. Alex also had a great day. His teacher is named Mrs. Wallace. I heard he had no problem telling the class about his life and what he likes, go figure. :) I also had a good group of kids on this first day of staggered entry. I can't wait to see who will end of in my class.

It has begun...

August 23

Our days of lazy Saturday afternoons are now over. The kids have started their fall sports and this Saturday they each had a scrimmage. Alex did a great job fielding and hitting the ball. He even got to play catcher. By the time Lauren's scrimmage started at 1:00, it was hot. Luckily our bench was under a shade tree. Lauren had a few great hits and even struck out two girls. Even when I have had a long day at work and know my dinner will not be until 9:00pm, I just love watching my kids play sports. I have met so many nice people at the fields and my kids have made many good friends.

My Kindergarten Classroom

My Other Home

I have started back to work this week. It has been a blast getting my room ready with my assistant, Sara. We have been coloring, cutting, taping, and gluing to some rockin' tunes. I think she might be a little sick of listening to Bon Jovi though. We have our open house tomorrow night, and this year I am all ready for it. Enjoy the pictures of my classroom.

Aaron's Birthday

August 16

Today we went to Sports Connection for my nephew's birthday. He is now the big 4. The kids had a great time jumping on the blow up things. The birthday cake was so delicious, of course I only ate the frosting, yum. We hope to see Aaron and Brayson again soon!

Fun at the Pool

Today we had a great time with our friends at the pool. Braiden, Jackson, and Caroline joined us for a day at " Jodi's pool." The kids had so much fun running back and forth from the big pool to the kiddie pool, where they slid down the slide and dodged the buckets of water. The water was very chilly due to our rainy day yesterday, but I don't think they noticed it too much. We all had a nice picnic lunch and then played on the playground before leaving. We had such a good time visiting with our friends today. It is sad to know our summer is almost over.

Schiele Museum

August 8

Today we went to the Shiele Museum with our friends; Jodi, Braiden, Jackie, Sam, and Ryan. We started out walking through an old 18th century farm where we saw some hens and pigs. We then took the nature trail and explored an Indian village. The stone art was very neat to look at. Inside the museum we saw all kinds of animals that are found in North Carolina. Some of the animals were alive, but most were stuffed. The swamp exhibit was our favorite. We ended our visit by going to the planetarium. We learned all about the constellations and how they got their name. We ate lunch at a great restaurant called Billie Jeans. It was such a fun day!

Fun in Florence

August 7

We had such a fun day in Florence, SC today. The kids and I went to see our friends Beth, Andrew, and Jacob. They have recently moved back to Florence, and it was so nice to spend the day with them. The children had a great time playing hide and seek in their big house. Their new puppy Ivy, also kept us on our toes. For lunch we went to my favorite Florence restaurant, Redbone Alley. The inside of the restaurant looks like you are eating outside in a Charleston neighborhood. The kids especially liked going inside the ice cream truck to get their free ice cream treat after lunch. It was so nice to be able to catch up with good friends. We hope to see them again soon.

Traffic Jams and Napkins

August 5

Today the kids and I headed off to the Express DMV so I could renew my driver's license. What a wonderful place! It only took 5 minutes and I was done. However instead of the 20 minutes it should have taken us to get there, it took us 70. As I crawled along 77 at 10mph for 8 miles, several thoughts came to me. 1. Now I will have to buy my kids McDonald's since we will now be out during lunch time. 2. Thank goodness for this traffic jam because the kids and I had a great time listening to music and talking. 3. I guess when the nuclear power plant siren goes off I might as well stay home because if this mess was caused by one car, I can't imagine everyone trying to leave Charlotte at the same time.
Later at Target, as we were leaving the restroom, my children could not understand why anyone in their right mind would pay 25 cents for a napkin! It was so much easier explaining things when they couldn't read :)

Waterpark Fun

August 1

Waterslides......they scare me to death. My children used to have the same fear, but today at Carowinds they went on all of them. A big thanks goes out to Jackie, Sam, and Ryan for riding down the slides with my children. They had so much fun today at the waterpark. Lauren is so proud of herself for going down the biggest slide they have. They can't wait to go back. I had a great time watching from the sidelines and cheering them on. Maybe someday I will be as brave as my children, but for now, I will continue watching their happiness from the sidelines.
