Attack of the heat!

We escaped the heat this weekend, but sadly it came back to our house yesterday. Due to a bad hail storm in April, we had to get a new roof yesterday. About 4:30 the house started getting really warm and the temperture kept rising. When David got home he checked it out and figured out we didn't have any freon. Turns out, the roofers had nailed a hole into the pipe above the garage!! The air conditioner guy fixed it this morning. It was a very hot and stuffy 86 degree night. The kids slept over at the neighbor's house....Thank you Lori and Kevin!! We now have a big hole in our garage ceiling where they had to cut and it took all day for the house to cool back down, but at least we have a roof over our heads.

Heat Wave Trip

We have had about 20 days of 90+ degree temperatures here in Charlotte. When David came home from work on Friday he told us we were going to escape the heat. Not even having a plan except a booked hotel room, we got up Saturday morning and started our adventure. We stopped first at Linville Caverns. We all loved this place. We were first greeted in the cavern by blind trout that swim in there. We didn't see any bats, but got to experience at one point total darkness when they turned off the lights. The kids can't wait to visit another cavern soon.

Next we drove to a very small mountain town called Little Switzerland. If you blink you miss it. It was located up this very winding road. We stopped and had lunch at this cute little cafe. I had the best grilled cheese sandwich ever!! It had gouda, blue cheese, and grilled onions on marble rye bread. I can't wait to make one of these for lunch.

It was then off to a place called Crabtree Falls. We drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopped every so often to check out the views. The temperature was awesome as we made our mile hike into the woods to see the falls. It was a fun hike and the view was awesome. The hike back was hot and tiring but we made it. We were all soaked with sweat and were thankful for the cooler we packed in the car.

Next we hiked up the tallest peak in NC. Mt. Mitchell. You really drive your car almost to the top and then hike 700 feet to the top. It was beautiful up there!

We ended our day by eating at a great Mexican restaurant and then did some swimming in the hotel pool. On Sunday we visited Biltmore. The kids just couldn't get over how big it is. Lauren was very interested in the history of everything. We even did some wine tasting with the kids. They of course sampled grape juice, but we did purchase 2 Biltmore red wines that we never had before. I am sure we will open one up tonight with dinner. On the way home we stopped for lunch and then saw the movie Toy Story 3. It is such a great movie. This trip was a great get away for the weekend. Tomorrow it is back to reality with baseball and softball practice.

Lauren is Ten!!!

We have now hit double digits for Lauren!! Hard to believe she is ten years old already. We did not have a party this year due to a softball tournament on her birthday weekend. We had a cookie cake with the family and then later that week had another cake with our friends. Unfortunately I kept forgetting to buy candles so we had to use a tea light. She was so embarassed, but I told her she had to make a birthday wish. We got her a DSI, which she has not stopped playing with, and a new bat bag. Hopefully we will get a chance to go out and do something fun for her birthday sometime.

Tournaments

Both Alex and Lauren had tournaments this weekend. It couldn't have been a hotter weekend. I think we went through about a case of water bottles and gatorade. Lauren and Alex played well with Alex's team winning 3rd place. Grandma and Grandpa came down to watch the games and Dawn and Gerald surprised us with a visit. We were so glad everyone could come and see the kids play ball. They got a taste as to how busy our lives are on the weekends. We do not have much time to do anything else which is why I am doing laundry at 10:00 at night. We were able to have a nice dinner out and the kids got to swim at the hotel pool. Hopefully we will be able to spend some time in Ohio soon.

School is Out

School is out and summer is here. This past week was my first 4 day week off. The kids and I kept very busy by going to the pool and baseball/softball practice. We also had to say good-bye to our good friends, Jodi and Braiden. They are now officially moved to Columbia,SC. We were so lucky they stayed with us for 2 nights before they left for good. We are going to miss them so much.

I am sad that after 2 years I have to also say good-bye to my class. I was so lucky to have looped with them to first grade. They touched my heart in many ways. On the last day they gave me a scrapbook and even made me a movie! It is so cute. During the last 2 weeks of school I had the science room bunny in my classroom. She is an adorable little thing named Bella. After about 2 days I got over my fears and started to pet her. Within another 2 days she would cuddle in my lap and would let me hold her and walk around with her. She also got very comfortale hopping around the room. Sometimes it was a chase to get her back in her cage. The kids and I grew so attached to the bunny. We would love to have one as a pet.

Here's to a long relaxing summer!!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my mom's birthday. We want to wish her a wonderful day. Hope you get lots of cake and a nice dinner. We hope to celebrate with you soon.

AGHHHHHH

I think someone put a hex on me. Within the past 8 hours I have gotten sick with a sinus infection and at last night's softball game David either broke or hyper extended his wrist. He collided with a guy while trying to catch a foul ball. I think I have convinced him to go to the doctor today. He doesn't want to go, but his wrist is swollen and he can't move it. I guess I will be cutting the grass this weekend. Then this morning I find a surprise for me in the refrigerator. A Diet Coke decided to explode last night. Soda is everywhere. I cleaned up the noticeable part but have left the rest for tonight. I won't be getting home until 8:00 but I figure the soda is not going anywhere.

Hopefully today someone will bring me some good news!!!
