Science Museum

Today the kids and I plus our good friends (Jodi, Braiden, Ryan, Sam, and Jackie) went to the Catawba Science Museum in Hickory. Lauren was begging to go to a museum over spring break, so we searched the internet and found this one that was close. What a fun day we had. The museum was actually in an old high school. We started out examining some animal skins, bones, and looking at some lizards, snakes, etc. We then moved on to a raceway room where the kids had a great time sliding golf balls down various tracks. In the inventor's room, they played with legos and gears. Their favorite room was the energy room. They had a blast shooting rockets, spinning in the chair, and using their own body weight and strength to make things move. Then it was on to the swamp exhibit. Being that we are a group that has begun to explore museums, we had previously seen this exhibit at the Schiele museum. It made us feel like real museum buffs :) We then ended our time at the museum at their aquarium part. The kids got to touch turtles, stingrays, and crabs. Lauren loved touching the stingray and was so excited that she touched it 3 times! The museum does have a planetarium, but we had to leave for home because Alex has a game tonight. We didn't get out the door before the kids had to buy rocks with their money. Why on earth kids feel the need to purchase shiny rocks, I will never understand. We ended our exciting day by eating lunch at Ham's restaurant. Great food and they even make their own homemade chips. I myself preferred their homemade macaroni and cheese. Thanks Jodi and Jackie for going on another museum adventure with me. Can't wait to see what place the summertime brings!
