Jury Duty

This week I got to spend two days on jury duty. I was a ball of emotions. I was mad at first because I would have to miss work. It is more work for me to miss than to be there, if you can understand that. Then once I was there, it was interesting listening to the others getting questioned as to whether they will be picked or not. When one guy was asked, what does your wife do? He answered, "not much of anything." He was so serious when he said it and continued to give these kind of answers. Guess who took his spot....me! I guess they liked my answers and gave me the shot of deciding someone's fate. It was really neat getting to see how court is done. It is a little different than what you see on tv. It is a very drawn out process. I had a good time meeting the other members on the jury. We had a bond going and kept the laughter up in our breaks to make the day go faster. They couldn't believe I actually would want to teach kindergarten and I couldn't believe they actually like to work downtown and drive in the traffic everyday.

The trial was a robbery case. A 16 year old boy and his friend pretended to have a gun and stole a lady's car. The law states that if the victim feels like they were threatned with a gun, it is the same thing as if they actually had a gun. No gun was ever found, but we found out later, after stealing her car they robbed someone else with a gun at another place. We found him guilty and he was sentenced 7-10 years. I felt so bad seeing him get handcuffed with his mom sobbing in the background. I will never forget that image.

Hopefully it will be longer than 2 years before I have to do this again. I can't wait to go back to work on Monday and be in my normal hectic routine.
